Blackhawk Memorial – ASASA (VIC) Service
Details:
ASASA (VIC) will conduct a service at the “SASR” Tree at the Shrine of Remembrance to commemorate the 15 men from SASR, and the 3 men from 5th Aviation Regiment, who died when two Australian Army Black Hawk helicopters collided during Counter Terrorism training at Fire Support Base Barbara in the Townsville Field Training Area on 12 June 1996.
On Sunday 15 June 2025, the Last Post Service at the Shrine of Remembrance will also commemorate the Blackhawk accident.
Who:
All former and current members of SASR (both members and non-members of the ASASA), their spouses, families and friends.
Timings:
0945 Meet and greet.
1000 Service commences.
1030 Service concludes.
1100 Coffee at Shrine of Remembrance.
Dress:
Please take the “Dress:” as a guide only. Please wear what you are comfortable wearing.
Berets (optional), medals (optional), suit, pants with jacket/blazer, dresses/skirts with jacket/blazer, smart jeans, collared shirts, blouses, tie (optional).
No sports wear, thongs or sandals please.
For those that are wondering, the Return from Active Service badge isn’t worn with medals, and only one Meritorious Unit Citation is to be worn if you have multiple awarded.
