All former and current members of SASR, their families and their friends are warmly welcome to our inaugural ‘Long Barrel Cup Family Day’.

This is a friendly rifle shoot organised by ASASA VIC and the Australian Commando Association that is aimed at getting a few shots down range.

The minimum shooting age in Victoria is 12 years old so bring along your teenagers too.

Having a fun experience (and keeping people safe) is the priority!

 
Who Can Take Part In The Shoot?

We need as many people as we can to be competitive against the Commandos so come along with your family and friends for a fun day!

  • Former and current members of SASR.
  • Their families.
  • Their friends.
  • The minimum shooting age is 12 years old so bring along your teenagers.
  • There is no maximum age.

 
The Shoot:

The First Serial

  1. All shooters take part in the first serial.
  2. This is a sighting practice using rimfire ammo (.22, .22 magnum or 17 HMR) at a paper target at 25 metres.
  3. This serial is not scored.

 

The Second Serial

  1. All shooters take part in the second serial.
  2. This is a scored practice using rimfire ammo (.22, .22 magnum or 17 HMR) at a paper target at 50 metres.
  3. Scoring will be based on the tightest group.

 

The Third Serial

  1. Based on the scores from the second serial, the best shooters from each of SASR and Commandos will go on to the third serial.
  2. This is a scored practice using centrefire ammo (.308, 30 calibre) at a metal plate target at 500 metres.

 

For All 3 Serials:

  • You may use your own rifle (see below).
  • For those who do not have their own rifle, one will be provided for you.
  • All shooters must follow the directed shooting serial.
  • To save time on the the day, there will not be a serial for zeroing or adjusting of sights.

 
Prizes:

Prizes will be awarded to the best shooter in each Association and to the top non-Association male and female shooters.

 
Assisting With The Running Of The Serials:

If you are a licensed gun holder, you may be asked to supervise non-licensed shooters in order to assist with the running of the serials.

 
Bringing Your Own Rifle:

If you are a licensed gun holder and have your own rifle, you are welcome to bring your own rifle if it is a .22, .22 magnum, 17 HMR, .308 or 30 calibre rifle.

You will have to produce your Longarm License to satisfy the Range Officer (RO).

 
Bringing Your Own Ammo:

.22, .22 magnum, 17 HMR, .308 and 30 calibre ammo will be provided.

If you are a licensed gun holder and have your own rifle, you are welcome to bring your own .22, .22 magnum, 17 HMR, .308 and 30 calibre ammo.

 
Using Someone Else’s Rifle:

If you are not bringing your own rifle, you will be required to be under the supervision of a licensed shooter while using someone else’s rifle.

 
Paperwork :

If you are a licensed gun holder, bring your Longarm License.

No other forms of ID are required.

Participants who do not hold a Longarm License are not required to complete any paperwork for this shoot.
(Note: This requirement is different to the annual pistol shoot. For the rifle shoot, participants who do not hold a Longarm License are NOT required to complete a Notice of Receiving Instruction (NORI) or any other paperwork.) 

 
Safety:

The wearing of eye protection is required.

Bring your own eye protection (the same as you would wear when operating a power tool is fine).

Ear plugs will be provided.

For younger shooters whose ears might be too small for ear plugs, make sure they bring their own ear muffs.

Adult shooters may bring their own ear muffs if they like.

 
Food:

There is a cafe on site.

You can also BYO food and drinks. There are no BBQ facilities.

 
Dress:

Casual with closed footwear.

Wear a long sleeve shirt to protect your elbows while in the firing position.

You are welcome to wear camo gear at the site.

 
Timings:

0900: Sign in.

0930: Safety briefing.

0945: Shoot commences.

1200-1300: Shoot finishes.

The finish time is dependent on the number of shooters on the day.

 
Cost:

$50 per shooter which includes the use of rifles and ammo.

It is preferred if you prepay. See payment details in the email sent to members.

If you cannot prepay, you can pay by cash on the day.
