SASR & CDO Pistol Shoot 2025 (Family Day)

Details:

All former and current members of SASR, their families and friends are warmly welcome to come along to the President’s Shield SASR and CDO Pistol Shoot.

This is a social shoot and is aimed at non-licensed shooters to experience a few shots down range. The minimum shooting age in Victoria is 12 years old so bring along your teenagers too.

Having a fun experience (and keeping people safe) is the priority!

Who:

We need as many people as we can to be competitive against the Commandos so come along with your family and friends for a fun day!

  • Former and current members of SASR.
  • Their families.
  • Their friends.
  • The minimum shooting age is 12 years old so bring along your teenagers.
  • There is no maximum age. We have had shooters in their 80s!

The Shoot:

The First Shoot

  1. All shooters take part in the first shoot.
  2. This is a static shoot with multiple exposures at the one target.
  3. YPC will probably provide revolvers for the first shoot.
  4. You may use your own gun (see below) which can be a revolver or semi-automatic pistol.
  5. All shooters must follow the directed shooting serial.

The Second Shoot

  1. Based on the scores from the first shoot, the best shooters from each of SASR and Commandos will go on to the second shoot.
  2. The second shoot is more of a basic IPSC style shoot that involves multiple targets at varying distances. This shoot is timed and scored.
  3. YPC will provide the semi-automatic pistols for the second shoot.
  4. You may use your own gun (see below) which can be a revolver or semi-automatic pistol.
  5. All shooters must follow the directed shooting serial.

Prizes:

Prizes will be awarded to the best shooter in each Association and to the top non-Association male and female shooters.

Bringing Your Own Gun:

If you are a licensed gun holder and have your own gun, you are welcome to bring and use your own gun.

You will have to produce your license and Certificate of Firearm Registration to satisfy the YPC Range Officer (RO).

Bringing Your Own Ammo:

If you are a licensed gun holder and have your own gun, you are welcome to bring your own ammo.

Full metal jacket ammo is not permitted.

Using Someone Else’s Personal Gun:

If you are not a licensed gun holder and you are not bringing your own gun, you may like to use someone else’s personal gun, particularly for the First Shoot.

If you are shooting under a NORI, you will be required to be under the supervision of a licensed shooter if using someone else’s personal gun.

Notice of Receiving Instruction (NORI):

All participants who do not hold a gun license will need to complete a Notice of Receiving Instruction (NORI).

Click here to download the NORI form.

Print and fill out the NORI before you come along but DO NOT SIGN IT.  If you make a mistake on the form (easy to do!), just print out another copy and try again.

It is best if the NORI is completed prior to the day however copies will be available on the day too.

PLEASE NOTE:

This question is on the NORI :

“Are you currently, or have you in the last 5 years suffered or been treated for any of the following: psychiatric or psychological conditions (e.g. depression, stress or emotional problems); alcohol or drug dependence; neurological conditions (e.g. stroke or head injuries); serious impairment of eyesight; fits, dizziness or blackouts; or have any medical condition that could impact on your ability to use a handgun in a manner that is safe to yourself and others?”

Even if you will be answering “yes”’ to this question, you can partake in the Pistol Shoot provided you have evidence from a treating medical practitioner (a letter from your doctor) of your fitness to use handguns.

For further information about the NORI, please email secretary@asasa-vic.org.au

ID:

Bring along the two forms of ID that you are using to identify yourself on the NORI form. At least one must have a photo. The other can be a credit card.

For younger enthusiasts – student ID with photo, and a Medicare card or debit card with their name on them is good.

YPC must sight both forms of ID prior to you and YPC signing the NORI form on the day.

Safety:

Each shooter is to bring their own eye protection (same as you would use when operating a power tool is fine).

Ear protection will be provided.

Food:

BYO food and drinks. There are BBQ facilities so bringing along a BBQ pack is a good option.

Please note Yarra Pistol Club is not licensed for BYO so no BYO alcohol. A licensed bar will be open after shooting has completed.

Dress:

Casual with closed footwear.

YPC does not allow camo gear at the site.
