Winner of the Presidents Shield Pistol Shoot 2024

13 October 2024

13 October 2024 marked the 31st year of the ASASA VIC vs Australian Commando Association Presidents’ Shield pistol competition.

The weather was ideal for the fun day ahead.

This year saw a larger number of family and friends, including teenagers, joining in. Many were shooting pistols for their first or second time.

The First Shoot

All 45 shooters took part in the first shoot. This was an untimed static shoot. Each shooter fired 10 rounds from a .22 pistol, 10 rounds from a .38 revolver, and 10 rounds from a 9mm semi-automatic pistol into a paper target at 10 metres. Shooters were scored on accuracy.

ASASA VIC’s members convincingly won over the Commandos, returning the Presidents’ Shield to us. Well done team!

Ash Murphy, our Team Captain, took out the best shooter prize too!

The Second Shoot

The best four shooters from SASR and from Commandos then went on to the second shoot.

With Ash Murphy stepping aside to allow another ASASA VIC member to be a part of the shoot out, Adam O’Donnell, Trav Holland, Doug McCarty and Ryan Oswin represented ASASA VIC in the second shoot.

The second shoot was an ICORE / IPSC style shoot were the shooters were standing behind a barricade. The shooters were to put 1 round into a metal falling plate target and 2 rounds into 2 paper targets on each side of the barricade. A total of 10 rounds per shooter. Shooters were scored on speed and accuracy.

The ASASA VIC team won the second shoot making it a clean sweep for ASASA VIC today.

Special Thanks

Special thanks go to Ash Murphy for organising the day, and to the Yarra Pistol Club for doing a fantastic job hosting us throughout the day.
